This week your assignment is to spend some time in research and reflection concerning the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. First, what are your personal recollections of the day? How did you find out about the attacks, and how did you and those around you respond? Visit the website http://www.history.com/content/9-11 to research the events and response of September 11, 2001.
As you all know, the Bible instucts us to love our enemies. In light of the world-wide terrorism threat, how ought Christians balance the necessity of protecting ourselves and our country with Christ's command that we respond to evil with good? The basic guidelines for this assignment are the same as the ones that have come before: 200 word essay and at least two responses to others (totalling 150 words).
Here's a bonus opportunity for those that are interested: Visit the website http://www.nationalgeographic.com/lewisandclark/index.html and research one of the Native American tribes that the Lewis and Clark expedition encountered along the way. Write a brief essay (150 words) sharing what you find and turn it in during class this week. This will be worth 5 percentage points added to the most recent test grade!
Some of you are waiting to the last minute to do your homework assignments and that has a way of working out in a very negative way sometimes. Let's get right on this assignment - don't procrastinate! Your work so far has been more than exciting - I've truly enjoyed getting to read your opinions and ideas!
It's been ten year from the worst day for America: the 9/11. Four planes crashed on American soil; two in New York City into the Twin Towers, one into the Pentagon ,and the last one in Pennsylvania. When I heard about it I was seven so I can't remember that moment to well but I remember what I was sad for all of those dead people. I heard it on the TV news with my parents, shocked from the terrible event too. This aweful event terrorized Americans. I think , however, that it's the only country that can remeber this tragedy so well. It's the only country that can cry under a flag, the american flag, with the desire to look ahead. Terrorism is a very bad thing and people that do it are completely crazy... I think that the only people that can be blamed is who decide to do it because maybe the people that will be killed by the attentat, was forcet (perhaps threatened to kill their whole family). As Christian we belive that Jesus said that everyone can be forgiven if you want, but I think that who created this disastre doesn't want to be forgiven by God. We have to protect our country (maybe with the wor) but not to attack another country and kill innocent people. That's not our faith, that's not our idea!

9/11 Gone but Not Forgotten:
ReplyDeleteThis would be the day that the lives of the American people would be changed forever. Two planes crashed painfully into the World Trade Center, a field in Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon. As metal hit the glass windows they shattered into millions of pieces. At that very second the panic struck and soon after the reality that left thousands of people fighting for their lives became very real.
September 11, 2001 started like any ordinary day. But this changed very quick the innocence of the day didn't last very long. I was in 1st grade at the time and I remember we were having circle time when our principle came to the door and discreetly gave our teacher the news. She tried to hide the look of panic on her face but she had a hard time in doing so. Not long after kids started being jerked out of class left and right, I'm assuming this was due to terrified parents. It wasn't long before my Mom came and got me we went home and watched in horror as everything continued to unfold. I remember not completely understanding what was happening at first but it didn't take very long.
Now as far as reacting to evil with love... that is a very different situation. There comes a point when there has to be punishment and that line was crossed in epic proportions on 9/11. The most kindness I can come up with is praying for them. Obviously prayer is needed... no doubt! But holding hands and living in perfect harmony with cold blooded killers is just not an option for me. So for me praying is plenty it works wonders! Enough said (:
Marta,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your essay! I really liked what you said at the end. And I couldn't agree with you more. Fighting terrorism with terrorism is not right at all. We are not the cold blooded killers we are civil and Godly. What the terrorists of 9/11 took from us wasn't only beloved family members and innocent lives they also took our peace. It's crazy how people's minds work honestly I don't think we'll ever understand. But anyways great job (:
For the bonus points I want to talk about Missouri Indians. Missuri Indians were a tribe that lived near the Grand River but six year before Lewis and Clark arrived, they moved to Nebraska. The first expedition where the two explorers met the Missouri Indians were the summer of 1804. They were farmer-hunters; they coltiveted corn, beans, squash and they hunted bison. In July 28,1804 they officially met an Indian. After that that all changed. At modern-day Council Bluffs, Iowa, they organized a cerimony with the western indians. The first meeating was a success but despite of this Lewis wanted to meet the Missouri chief; he met him in August 18. They discussed about centered on trade and peace negotiations. Lewis wanted that they sostein the peace and to stop raiding the close tribes but they weren't interesting about it. They moved to the Big Blue River between Kansas and Nebraska and then to Oklahoma.
ReplyDeleteJessica I completely agree with you. I wanted to say that if some people attack us we have to defend us and not do nothing because it's worse! There would be more people dead if we can't fight with them..
ReplyDelete9-11 changed America and Americans forever. I don’t recall much from that day. I know I was kindergarten and my teachers were talking about it. When I got home I remember my mother was talking about it and crying. As a kindergartener I didn’t know what was so bad about it. I thought someone just got confused and crashed planes. But now that I understand everything and that our country was under attack, I realize that the people who drove the aircraft didn’t care about life and others lives. So it wasn’t a big deal to take their own lives. Recently as we had the tenth anniversary of 9-11 I began to get emotional just thinking and watching videos of it and how people can plan and construct a plan to kill other people. In the videos, I saw people crying and calling for help, and I felt like I should be able to help those people. The people who constructed the plan were probably more than happy because to them they felt victory and pleasure in hurting families and taking lives from people. But over all, this event caused America to change. It changed their defense and it even made me realize that there are people out there who completely hate us and wan t to kill us. For every bad thing there is good thing that comes out.
ReplyDelete9/11/01
ReplyDeleteThis terrible event occurred ten years ago, yet I still remember what I saw that day. I was five years old, and I was at school in my kindergarten classroom when I heard what had happened. Our teacher had gone into the hall to talk with the principal. When she came back, she said something about planes hitting a building in New York City. I wasn’t sure what she meant, but I soon found out. My grandma picked me up from school around noon, and when we got to her house she turned on the TV. At first I thought we were watching a movie, but when I asked to change the channel she said that many people had just died. I remember it, but it almost seemed to have a dreamlike quality when I look back at it. Now I understand what really happened that day. I understand that almost 3,000 people lost their lives, that men plotted for years to destroy our country, and that I will never truly understand why it happened. You can say what you want about why they did it or who they were, but I will never understand how those men could hate us so much that they would die to bring our nation down.
Marta:
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in that as an American I can look at what happened and know that we will keep going and not give up. What you said really inspired me; I now know that because something like this happened, it will make us stronger. It will make us more aware. It will help pave our future, so to speak. Looking back at it will help us in the future.
Bethany:
Your essay is so heartfelt that I nearly started crying; just thinking about what was going through those people’s heads scares me. To think that they spent years working on a plan to kill as many people as possible. I also thought about the people on the planes and how they must have felt when the plane was hijacked. What was going through their heads when they called their families? How did the families feel when they heard that their loved ones were on a plane that was going to crash and kill hundreds or thousands of people? It’s so scary to think about and to think that it could happen again.
September 9, 2001 america was kicked in the teeth by islamic terrorist. That day there was a serires of four planed suicide attacks on our homeland in the New York and Washington D.C area. On that ordinary morning 19 terrorist from an islamic militant group called the al-Qaeda took over four jumbo passenger jets. They then flew two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the world trade center in New York city; both towers collapsed within two hours. A third air liner was crashed in to the pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The forth airliner the terrorist thought that the passengers were going to take back the plane so they put the nose of the plane down and crashed into a near by field in Shanksville Pennsillvania. The intended target was Washington D.C.. Nearly 3,000 inoicent lives ere lost that day in the attacks.
ReplyDeleteWhen this all happened I was only four and I had no idea what happened but I don’t realy know when I relized that 9/11 was a bad thing. I guess in the back of my head I rememberd that e were attacked but I was too nieve to understand the seriouness behind it all.
Bethany: Great job with your essay! I think that if I recived the last call from one of those people, my life could be different in a bad way. It's so horrible lose a friend or a relative and it's more horrible know that he/she could die after your call and that the last words are for you..
ReplyDeleteSeptember 11, 2001 was a very sad day for millions. And it will never be forgotten for millions. Yes I was young when it happened, actually first grade. But I will never forget it, after the first plane hit my first grade teacher turned on the tv and we watched eventually the second tower get hit and fall. As for me that is really all I personally remember. As iv gotten older I have seen many videos and documentary’s. I have learned much much more. It is very devastating. I can not imagine going threw that or having a family member in the towers and defiantly not losing one. It is very sad remembering that every year on that day. I have much much sympathy for everyone that was affected by that day. Yes the Bible tells us to love our enemies and I know many of those people will never be able to. I know if it were me It would take me a long time if I ever did. Sometimes it is really hard to except things like that, but I would know that in time I needed to. Yes we will never know exactly how they feel but we can always keep them ion our prayers.
ReplyDeleteFor the 9/11 assignment i'm going to talk about what i remember in that day i not that much though, There was a happy birthday party of my friend that day in my school, (that's why i remember that day) and then i got home and my mom was in the kitchen making the dinner, with the tv on the news and it was very loud i just saw two buildings on fre with alot of smoke around them, then i remember watching the second airplane crashing in the south tower of the world trade center buildings, of course i didn't care because i did not know what was going on, more late and after some years i remember that my dad had a video of thee 9/11 in the computer and i watched, it was awful because of the music they played. The most sad part of the video was the sound of tables or cement falling down from a very high place but of course it wasn't tables or concrete, it was people falling down the towers or killing themselves....i will never know. But it was the most horrible sound I ever heard. And I finally understood what i saw on that sad 9/11 day.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's gonna be one day that US and the world will never forget for all the people and heroes that died (more than 3000).
I just think that the US should not do anything against terrorism, of course just avoid terrorism but not attack them or kill them, God know why things happen and they are going to pay all the suffer they made in earth with God.
In my bonus point assignment im going to talk about the Yankton Sioux indians.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Clark wrote in his journal about how they lived and their territory, They used to live in Teepees contructed by buffalo skin near the James River (South Dakota now.
William Clark wanted to open trade relationship with the Yanktons and it was not a problem, they had already trade with British and French traders, They wanted to preserve their territory and they believed that doing this that'd be possible.
At the end the Yanktons' and Lewis and Clark talks were not all succesfull, the Yanktons wanted rifles, ammunitions, and whiskey but of course Lewis and Clark would never give them all that stuff, tThe Yanktons were invited to a talk trade with the president by then Jefferson.
Bethany,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your essay. It was really really sweet and touching. It really is crushing when you sit back and think about everything that happened that day. So many innocent people's lives were cut so short that day. I personally ca not imagine going through any of it. But anyways great job on your essay!
Daniel,
I really enjoyed your essay. I thought it was funny when you said you only remembered the day because it was your friend's birthday... It definitely lightened the mood on such a depressing subject. Amazing job!
9/11: the horrible day thousands of people died and more people scared for life. I think that almost every American citizen know what they were doing when they got the news and i know that many people was affected by it. I was in Copenhagen airport, in Denmark, to pick up my dad, who just got home from New York. We were on our way out to the car when my grandmother called and asked if my dad was home, because she was afraid he still was in New York. Every day in a few weeks 9/11 was the main story in the Danish news. Everybody was in chock and talked about it all the time, so slowly you knew anything about the attacks.
ReplyDeleteI think the persons who did this feel happy about them self’s, because their mission was completed. But I don’t think god would forgive them that easily. He won’t let them suffer, but he will punish them somehow. It was after all the terrorists that made millions of people suffer, even though they weren’t there to experience it. 9/11 has affected the world so much even the day today.
On September 11, 2001 it was supposed to be a normal day. Nothing catastrophic was suppose to happen, but it did. On September 11, 2011 two planes hit the World Trade Centers, another plane hit the Pentagon, and even a fourth (whose destination is unknown) crashed as well. Now looking back it amazes me how sadistic these people were to kill nearly 3,000 innocent people.
ReplyDeleteI was only in kindergarten when 9/11 happened, but I remember my teacher leaving the room for a moment then coming back with watery eyes. Then they dismissed school for the day. When I got home it was on my grandparent’s television, but I didn’t really register in my mind what had happened to our country until a few years later. Our family was hit hard because my uncle was born and raised on Long Island and had family living in Manhattan at the time; he is also in the military and after 9/11 was one of the first people to go to Iraq.
I admit it is hard to love our enemies, especially when an avoidable tragedy like this happens, but God commands us to love our enemies and pray for them. There also comes a time though when we need to protect ourselves. I believe that if we pray and ask God for wisdom and providence and ultimately give the situation to Him, He will point us in the right direction.
Thanks,
Rebecca
This Sunday marked the 10th year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America. Ten years ago destruction and despair flooded America and changed our nation forever. Every American that has any remembrance of this tragic day has been changed in some way since. Although, I was only six years old on that fateful day I still remember the urgency and fear that American citizens were feeling. I don’t have any remembrance of my 1st grade year except for this day. I remember sitting in class and our assistant teacher coming into the classroom and whispering into my teacher’s ear. I remember her reaction perfectly. She closed her eyes and covered her open mouth in response to the news. She shook her head and said okay. She told us to do seat work and she turned on the news and watched as people were looking up in fear at the flaming tower. Then the second plane hit and everything changed. America knew at that moment that this was not an accident but a well thought out plan to make all American citizens suffer for years to come. Since then this nation has been dramatically changed; we now have Homeland security which was created in response to this very day, we have spent millions of dollars on war, News is full of stories about death and bombings because of the war, and now where the 2 tallest buildings in the world once stood; is now a memorial to the day when nearly 3000 people lost their lives abruptly. September 11th, 2002, is a day that has gone down in history and will never be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteTANNER IS AWESOME it was September 11.
ReplyDeleteSeptember 11th, 2011
ReplyDelete9/11 was one of the worst days in our American history. Thousands of people lost their lives in just a matter of minutes, thousands of families were getting calls upon calls hearing from their loved ones telling them that they might not ever meet again. Many did not know what was going on and many were trapped having nowhere to go. September 11th was an eye-opening experience for America; I don’t exactly remember much of that day because I was only four but all I know is it was a devastating day. Millions of people were somehow affected that day as a whole country we were very surprised and shocked. Two planes hit the world trade center and another hit the pentagon and also another but never hit its actual destination. When this happened I really couldn’t get what had happened I had just heard from my parents and learned more over the years. Just seeing the videos from YouTube or other internet sources from 9/11 just make me really just be so thankful that I’m alive and my family is all here, when thousands of people are without parents or grandparents. I think if we just remember that dreadful day when we pray I think God will help all of the pain and agony that these families are still going through 10 years later.
Rebecca,
ReplyDeletei really liked reading your essay because it was very informative and well written so if i were someone who had no idea what 9/11 was then i would definately know what it was after i had read it.
Josephine,
i loved your essay because you really explained the subject very well and you did a great job even though your from denmark ;) so good job!
How I remember the 11 of September 2001:
ReplyDeleteI found out about the attacks on the 10 of September. My parents woke me up in the morning and showed me the pictures. I was very little, so I do not understand so good what was going on. But I still remember this day, because the day before I went to a festival and had fun while many people died on the other side of the world. This makes me still feel uncomfortable when I think about it. Everybody around me was very sad and we talked about it in school with our teachers and stuff like this. I think this is one the news I never will forget, like the accident at the nuclear power plant in Japan Fukushima. I think you should not love these terrorists, because they choose how they treat us so they also chose how we should treat them. But I think we should try to understand why these people did this to avoid such things in the future, because I think there have to be a reason why they did this. Maybe a religious, economic or other reason like revenge. When we understand these people we do not have to protect us against these people, because then they do not exist anymore.
@ Josephine Pedersen
ReplyDeleteI like your essay; I also think it is very interesting that your fathers was in New York a few days before the attack. I like your opinion about God`s opinion about what these people did. But the problem with this is, that they believe in another variation of God. And that they fought that it is good to kill other people. But my opinion about this is, that radical religious preachers told them all these thing, because there holy book the Koran did not say a thing about all these things.
@ Rebecca Dunmore
I like your essay too, it is saying some very important things. It is really hard for me to think about the people who did not remember all the things. I am not meaning you, but your statement that you get it a few years later remind me how “old” we are all. But I hope that the people will remember the attack like they are still remembering Pearl Harbor.
9 / 11
ReplyDeleteExactly ten years ago, passed the four terrorist attacks. Affected were the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a failed terrorist attack in Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 people died.
I can hardly remember the terrorist attacks, because I was only five years old. We were a few month ago in the World Trade Center and now a plane crashed into it. But I can remember when the first plane flew into the World Trade Center, that within minutes it was all over the news. My family watched the news all afternoon and we saw the pictures of injured people and the collapsing towers. I did not realize what had happened, but I knew that something terrible had happened. My family was very sad and I think that on this day the world mourned with the victims of 9 / 11.
Terrorist attacks are all over the world. I think that the leaders of terrorist organizations are cowards. They send people, who do the attcks, and even they remain in their country and perhaps look at the attack on television.
But the most terrible of these attacks is, that innocent people die, which I think is not fair.
I was living in California at the time 9/11 happened. I remember waking up to news that the twin towers had crashed, and because I was only five years old at the time, I had no clue what the twin towers or the world trade center even were. I just remember being shocked and confused, thinking, “Who would do this.” As I got older I learned more about what had happened, it is still hard for me to believe that someone could hate someone else so much that they would kill other people just for not believing like them
ReplyDeleteThis was the worst attack on America in history. It would have been worse if it wasn’t for brave patriots who, when they knew their plane was hijacked and of the attacks killed the terrorist and crashed the plane in a field Pennsylvania.
Even though it is so terrible that this happened we must remember that even the bad guys where people, they had souls too. The men who crashed the planes did go to hell, which is something we don’t want to happen with anyone. We must remember that justice needs to be done we also need a balance of justice and grace, the people who planed this, who are still living, still can be saved.
Daniel,
ReplyDeleteYour essay is your truth, what you really felt that time. This was awesome. And I really understand, because I don’t remember much either. So I totally understand. Now I feel it must be very sad, but before, I didn’t realize, and I didn’t even know the specific thing that happen. For example, people jump out of the building because they had no choice. Anyways, good essay! You told your truth, great.
Catelyn,
It was really sad, yeah, and I knew you were shot when you knew that. It is sad, and nobody can believe that! I remembered when my dad told me, and said you wouldn’t have any chance to see that, I was shot too. Anyways, good truth, good essay.
On September 11, 2001 the terrorist attacked the Twin Towers. Unfortunately, I do not have any memory of this day. I didn't know abou this event until I was six and saw it on the news for it's second anniversary. My parents didn't act any different when it happened because they didn't want to scar me. I believe that we should always be ready to defend our country against threats to our freedoms, but I don't think there is a reason to attack the terrorist's countries. In this way we are fighting evil with good by not attacking their countries, but staying home and protecting our country. Hearing the story as I've grown up, I now have a great respect for the American patriots who sacrificed their lives for our country. Another way we can return evil with good is by praying for the individuals who attacked us because they are lost and in need of Christ. My heart goes out to the families who lost their relatives and friends; it would be such a horrible way to loose those you love. In conclusion, 9/11 was a scary situatio that pray never occurs again.
ReplyDelete“911” happened surprised billions of people, hurt thousands of families. It must be so sad, and I can see now. But when it happened, I was only in primary school, and I didn’t really think much. I thought it was just something normal. But it said it was terrorists attacked, and that time I didn’t even know what terrorists are? So my dad explained everything to me, but I didn’t really feel much until now, I understand how horrible it was. “911”, I can never forget, because my dad told me something amazing had been destroyed, and I would never have a chance to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt became a huge thing that time. I remembered everyone around me was talking about it. And this was in China, so I can’t imagine what was like in America. It must be so hurtful to people’s heart. I can’t even think about it. I found out there was people, they were still talking to their family before they died, and told them they loved them but they were stuck in the building. How sad that was, unbelievable. Although, “911” was history, it still in our heart, and we can never forget. We can’t change anything, so what we can do is do our work, our job; and let God handle it. It doesn’t matter what God will do, but it must has His reasons.

ReplyDeleteJosephine,
ReplyDeleteI really liked hearing about 9/11 from the perspective of someone who wasn’t living in America at the time. It must have been so weird to be picking up your dad from the airport the day it happened, after he was in New York that week. It’s amazing how something we just missing death by a few hours.
I think that God has punished the people who did this but will forgive the ones who are still alive if they ask him
Tanner,
Despite getting the wrong date I thought your essay was very informative. I like how you mentioned the brave people who crashed the one plane in Pennsylvania befoer it hit Washington D.C. I think when it happened I was a lot like you were, I didn’t understand what happened, I remember my mom telling me that it wasn’t an accident but was done by evil men who had a lot of hate in their hearts.
September 11, 2001, I think people from all over the world remember that day. I was first grade when Sept 11, 2001 so I did not pay attention about that. But I can remember many people and school teachers said it’s awful. That day was same day with others day. New York was really peaceful day but 2 airplane was hit the building and that peace was disappear. Every New York city’s’ people were sad, cried and prayed to God. Really many persons were dead, many babies lost their parents. Now I can think about it and pay attention and I’m thinking about that. One of my friend said to me “I cried that accident was in U.S.A, there is not my country but they are person too.” I was agreed with that. Every person’s life is valuable but someone stole it. We don’t have qualification to steal someone’s life. It’s never happen again.
ReplyDeleteJason Lim
On September 11, 2001 America would change forever. I personally don't remember anything from that tragic day except watching a short news clip of the second tower falling, but over these past ten years I have come to realize that day changed everything. I don't remember ever truly understanding till second grade when we had a discussion in class about what truly happened just two years before, that day I began to understand that so many people died because someone hated America and felt the need to attack and ruin millions of innocent lives. Before this specific time in my life I have no knowledge of any Islamic terrorists I believed the world was a kind and honest place but after that tragic day I realized there are so many people willing to take innocent lives for their beliefs. My parents explained to me recently after asking them “how did you react?” informed me that everyone including them were in a state of panic and shock, they didn't believe that such a thing would happen on that specific day. Sunday September 11, 2011 was the tenth year anniversary and so many people came together to remember, cry ,and share stories.
ReplyDeleteEmma I loved your essay, after I read the first sentence I was hooked the way you worded it made me have to read the whole thing. you did an amazing good!
ReplyDeleteLydia, like me you didn't remember anything from that day. you did a great job .
ReplyDeleteJason I was really curious to see how people in other countries reacted.
ReplyDeleteCindy Yu,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your essay. That's amazing how information can go from one country to the nesxt in less than one day. I like your last sentence that says it doesn't matter what God does but He has a reason behind it. That is so true, we may not understand everything but he always has a reason. Great Job!!
Rebecca,
Your essay is very good. It was supposed to be a normal day but it wasn’t. It was a very sad time and those people shouldn’t have lost their lives. God has his reasons, although we may not understand, It will be a good reason.
Jason,
You are so right, those people got their lives stolen away from them unfairly. I hope something this tragic will never happen to the United States or any other country. It amazes me to know that other people around the world knew about this so fast in one day. Great Job!
Catelyn:
ReplyDeleteI wish I could remember nine-eleven, but sadly I don’t. I can relate though when you said you thought it was a movie. When I was around six years old I saw it on television for its second anniversary, the news station was playing what they had caught on camera of the terrible tragedy. I didn’t understand that 9/11 was a current event that had happened to us. You did a very good job with your essay!
Marta:
It is sad that we have killed people that may have not been apart of the attack. It is hard, I believe, to tell who your enemies are when your in a hostile, foreign country. I hope those who did contribute to the attack on our country hear the true Word of God before they die; everyone deserves the chance to hear God’s light. Overall, I think you did a very good job with your essay.
Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your essay. I can’t even imagine having to call home to tell my family that I won’t make it or in reverse that my family member might not make it. In situations like this like you said that we can trust God to help the families who lost loved ones to find comfort. Even if it has been ten years the memories and lives lost will not be forgotten. Great job!
Jessie,
I also enjoyed your essay. I definitely agree with you on how we should deal with the terrorists with prayer. I agree that there is no way I could ever live in perfect harmony with them here on earth, but like you said prayer does work wonder! Good job!
Josephine,
It was very interesting to see how other people around the world thought about the tragedy of 9/11. I’m also sure that you and your family are extremely happy that your father returned safely, I guess that just shows how God has such a divine plan that we can’t understand. Anyway, great essay!
10 years ago when the Twin Towers were tragically destroyed, I was only six years old and in the first grade. I don't remember the school day or how I found out and I don't think I really understood what had happened, anyway. I knew it was something bad and that people were dying but I really didn't even understand that. When I got home from school, the first thing I did was wake up my dad up and ask him to go play outside. His answer consisted of No, there are bombs everywhere, its dangerous, and so on. I was pretty freaked out at that point and terrified to open the front door even, but later, I realized my dad had been sleep-talking. After the short lived terror in me had passed, I started to understand what NYC was dealing with. The 9/11 attacks have changed our country in several ways since they sadly occurred. Our economy is now horrible, airports are a completely different scene, and racism has increased dramatically: aimed at all muslims.
ReplyDeleteJosephine:
ReplyDeleteI was very interested in your essay because it seems like a very personal thing to you because your dad had just been in New York. It was also very interesting to hear about an outsider’s view of that day. I’m use to hearing Americans talk about how they felt and I often forget that it had an effect on other countries as well.
Marta:
Your essay was very intriguing to read. I liked to hear your opinion on the current war America is in. I feel sort of the same way; solving death with death really is not the way to go. I feel like America approached it very wrong which in turn has caused us to suffer even more. We lose tons and tons of soldier’s everyday and thousands of dollars paying for the war. The result of this is American citizens are having to suffer from the poor economy. Anyways, Good job on your essay. I really enjoy reading yours every week!
September 11, 2001 was one of the most saddening moments in America’s existence. Although many innocent people died that day and families were torn apart the country of America grew and learned from that day. Americans showed their pride and their strength that day by coming together as a country in prayer for those that died and their families. Strength was also shown in an extremely inspirational way that day, the last plane that crashed on September 11th was the most inspiring story I think I have heard that occurred in my life time. The people that were on that plane were not only brave enough but loved their country enough to fight the terrorist on the plane and crash it into a field so that no other Americans would be hurt is just so unbelievably inspiring. I can only imagine what was running through the minds of the passengers when they knew they would never see their families again and many unable to say goodbye. Although the terrorist wanted to destroy the hope of Americans and destroy the feeling of safety, which they succeeded in some way, all together I believe that we grew together as a nation more than fell apart as a nation.
