Homework 3, Due November 5, 2010
This being a short school week, you will doubtless have extra time to commit to history homework! All kidding aside, I will eliminate the minimum word count for your essays and responses for this week's assignment. Your assignment is a simple and straight-forward one: following Tuesday's election results, research the outcome of the contest your wrote about a couple of weeks ago. Tell us who won and whether your prediction was correct. Summarize your beliefs about how the election results will affect the US over the next two years and explain why. Enjoy your extra-long weekend!

As most people are aware, the election results are now in and our new Kentucky Senator has been elected. For the next two years, Rand Paul will represent Kentucky in Washington D.C. Is this a good thing? Or a bad thing? I guess no one will really know until he begins, but I believe that this is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI make no secret of it, I did vote for Rand Paul in the mock election, and I am happy that he won. Although my vote was based on the abortion fact alone, without really taking notice of any of his other platforms. I am happy that he won, though I do know of quite a few others who won't be as happy when they learn.
So what does this mean for the US over the next two years? Well, focusing on the abortion issue, I hope that Mr. Rand Paul will help bring this issue up more and help to end it. Although I highly doubt that his view on abortion, completly getting rid of it no matter the situation (for example: rape, the baby will die, or the mother will die without abortion) will be popular, or accepted, perhaps part of what he wants will become accepted. Like the idea that the mother should decide to have an abortion ONLY if her life is at risk.
My own beliefs might be finding there way into this report, but oh well. Whether or not what I have stated above will ever become reality, or even if Rand Paul will have anything to do with it, are entirely unknown. Perhaps over the next two years, maybe over the next 200 years. Anyways, I know that there are other issues that Rand Paul has, but the abortion issue stuck out to me the most.
Rand Paul won. But the election was not as clearly as some people thought!!! Rand Paul will now represent us in Washington D.C. . A lot of people are really happy that he won, and they now hope that he can do all the things he wanted and which are best for us.
ReplyDeleteOne of the problems here is the abortion, and this is something that people want to be a less problem than it is now. A lot of his voters are hoping that he can help to reduce the number of abortions and that he can find a better solution. But now it is also important not to think that he is able to change everything really quick,as we all know, changes need time. And changes this big, they need a lot of time. But I don't know if it is possible to reduce the number of abortions. In the end, it is still the decision from the mother. Even if we don't like to accept this.
I don't now much about this election today. So I am not sure whether I like the candidate or not! I just hope that everyone knows why they voted for him and that they thought about it!
For my election I chose the Colorado election between Ken Buck and Michael Bennet. I had chose Ken Buck to win, and he did by three percent, forty nine percent to forty six percent, a three point spread. I chose Ken Buck because he is a republican and he supports some good ideas, and I think he will do good for the state of Colorado in Washington DC and really help them out. So yes Ken Buck was elected as i hoped and predicted.
ReplyDeleteLast time I chose the election in California.
ReplyDeleteBoxer, the incumbent from the Democrats, won with 52%. Fiorina from the Republicans had 43%.
The results aren't as close as predicted.
My prediction was that Boxer is going to win.
I don't really know how that is going to affect the USA because I heard that the Republicans took over a bunch of seats in Washington. So I don't know what they are able to work together or to make compromises.
Christian, Ken Buck lost the Colorado senatorial election.
ReplyDeleteI did my essay on the election in the state of Kentucky. As most of you know, Rand Paul won these elections. I don't really know if it's good or not. I guess we will see how it turns out in the next few weeks. I hope that God will inspire this man and he will do good things for our state. That he will keep his promises. This election will maybe have a impact on the US since the republicans have a lot of seats in washington. I hope they will take good decisions for our country.
ReplyDeleteI did my essay on the North Carolina senatorial election. The person that I chose to win was the incumbent, republican Richard Burr. Senator Burr kept his position after the election Tuesday. I believe that this election was a very important one. The reason that I say this is because the republicans were able to take the majority in the house. This removed the control that the democrats had on both the senate and the house. One of the key principles that our nations government is based on is balance. When one party gains control of the house, senate, and presidency that balance is put into jeopardy. Through this election the balance was restored. That is why this election was important.
ReplyDeleteOver the next two years I think that there will be a big shift away from the more leftwing views that have taken hold over the last few years. I also think that the republicans not taking the majority in the senate will lead to big changes. If the republicans had taken both house and senate President Obama would have been able to blame the republicans for not being able bring about the change that he promised in his campaign. This would have been a huge tool if he ran for office again. Because the republicans did not get both house and senate I think that President Obama will be in a much closer race than the last election.
I did my essay on Kentucky state election race. Rand Paul vs. Jack Conway. One of the comments made by national television on election night was dirty tricks that Jack Conway used to try and smear Rand Paul and his campaign. According to the newscaster it was some of the lowest this year. I feel that always backfires. I hope with the change of seats in the house, congress and the senate will make the changes necessary.
ReplyDeleteI don't think President Obama get's the picture of what is needed. It makes me wonder if he will try and run a second term. I think he does have his own agenda. Oh by the way, I forgot to say that Rand Paul won!
I had written about the Senate Race in Kentucky, and I am now able to tell you the results of last Tuesday’s election.
ReplyDeleteThe two candidates were Jack Conway for the Democratic Party and Rand Paul for the Republican Party. My prediction was correct.
Jack Conway had been the incumbent for many years; however, in the end Rand Paul defeated Democrat Jack Conway by about 150,000 votes. He will become one of the new senators from the state of Kentucky.
Since the Republicans did not gain control of the senate, they will not have as much power to influence legislation. However, the Republicans did gain many senate seats as well as control of the House of Representatives. This will give them the ability to greatly affect the future of the United States. Their goal is to avert Democratic legislations, such as the healthcare bill. Only the future will tell how they will be able to influence the direction of this nation.
The election I chose to write about last week was the Kentucky Senate Election, as you know Rand Paul won.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching all the campaign commercials, I had a gut feeling Rand Paul would win, because Conway repeatedly made commercials putting Paul down.
I pray Rand Paul keeps the promises he has made to Kentucky, and progresses us to a better future!
i did my essay last week on the kentucky elections. and as everyone knows rand paul won. to be honest i dont know what to expect from him and to be honest i dont know how i feel about it. i suppose after a while all of the rumors that circulated through out this campain kinda got to me and truly... i didnt know what to believe and what to blow off. all in all i hope God guides rand paul in all of his decisions and i pray that rand paul is open and acceptant to all that God has to say. :)
ReplyDeleteemily, i totally agree with you in hoping that rand paul keeps in promises... unlike some of our other govermental officials. to be straight up i hope that God takes control of the whole situation with this country and turns everything around... this process is under way concidering that nancy palosi is now out of her job ;)
ReplyDeletebiggin,
ReplyDeletei couldnt agree with you more where you said that you didnt think obama saw the big picture i mean in my opinion he has a little cookie cutter idea of how HE wants this country to be and frankly im pretty sure he couldnt care less about the well being of anyone or anything else. you know most people strive to leave behind a legacy and no doubt obama will do so... but his legacy will be one that people will talk about for generations to come... and not because he was so wonderful or because he improve our country... it will be because he torn our country to shreds and broke us down. but there is my little rant, so anyways good job :)
Emily,
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you wrote about Paul keeping his promises. I also agree with what you put about. Good job. :)
Jess_megs15,
Good job! I agree with all you wrote. I also hope that Paul keeps his ears open to the Lord and does as the Lord would have him. Also, about your comment to biggin... GOOD JOB!! What you wrote about the President is completly true! And greatly put! Simple and the truth, and I agree completly with what you commented about. Great little rant haha :) :)
I did my essay on the election in kentucky. The candidated were republican Rand Paul and democrat Jack Conway. Rand Paul won as i thought and I think he will to great for kentucky. From what he believes I think he can make good changes.
ReplyDeleteBiggin,
ReplyDeleteGood essay I agree with everything you wrote especially about how Conway tried to make Paul look bad.
Elena,
Great essay I agree about what you wrote and I hope Rand Paul keeps his promises.
In the homework we did more recently we discussed our opinions on who we personally would
ReplyDeletechoose to represent our state of Kentucky. I (hesitantly) wrote in my essay who i chose in the
mock election (Rand Paul) and apparently many others agreed and he is now Senator of
Kentucky. I personally what this means for Kentucky, but i will soon see.
Elizabeth, i like how you mentioned th bortion thing because that is somethng i hate so much and really hope Ran Paul will eliminate it. Great essay!
ReplyDeleteRand Paul and Jack Conway. Republican and Democrat. I know little about
ReplyDeletethe elections this tuesday aside from what my parents told me. I asked
them a few questions but they failed to elaborate on their answers. Google
is failing me too.
Rand Paul, along with many other republicans, won the election. I'm
pleased with the results. If I were old enough to vote, I would have
chosen Rand Paul. I just pray that God will use him to lead our government
in the right direction.
I did mine on the election in Ky. Rand Paul won like i predicted and i believe he will make good changes that will benefit us in the long run. Wll Akers you took the word requirement off so this is all you get :P lol
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago I wrote my essay on the senate race of Oklahoma. I predicted that Coburn, the republican as well as the incumbent, would win the current election against Rogers the democrat. My reason for predicting the way I did had a lot to do with the differences between the way Coburn and Rogers approached campaigning. Coburn had a very traditional but effective way of going about campaigning. But Rogers had a very unusual way of doing it. I wrote in my last essay about how Rogers would stand with a homemade sign on the streets and tell who ever asked what he stood for. To me this just sounded bizarre. I mean, how would anyone know much about him unless they stopped by and asked him? Campaigning was not the only reason I predicted that Coburn would win. Oklahoma has almost always been republican.
ReplyDeleteWhen I researched the results of the race I found that my hypothesis was correct! Coburn did win the election, just as I had predicted. Coburn with 71% of the votes and Rogers with 26%
Biggin,
ReplyDeleteGood job! I agree with what you said about Conway trying to make Rand Paul look bad. That is one thing that really makes me hate politics.
Abbie,
Good job! Im praying as well that God will use him to put the U.S. back on track.
I did my essay about Kentucky election .There are Rand Paul from Republican and Jack Conway Democrat. Rand Paul won many times . I'm glad with the results this time because I think he got enough experience and opportunities to lead our government. And I hope that he keeps the promises and progresses us to a better future. And now the Republican took place in many seats in the government so I wish they will do their best to govern the country .
ReplyDeletePaco:
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your tiny essay. It was definitely straight to the point. ;) Good job.
Elizabeth:
Your Essay was very good. I also hope that he can do something to stop abortion. I respect you for being Completely open with your beliefs. Also, I want to point out that even though Mr.Akers took off the limit of words needed on this you still wrote a 300 word essay. Thats Commitment. :) Great job elizabeth. I always enjoy reading your essays.
Two weeks ago I chose to do my report on who was going to become the senator of Alabama. The options were Richard Shelby (R)and William Barnes (D). Richard Shelby won the election once again. He has been the long time senator of Alabama since 1987.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Shelby will be, and has been a good senator for Alabama. Hes all about leadership, integrity, commitment, and character. According to the associated press, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby has secured a fifth term in the United States Senate.
I did predict and hope that Richard Shelby would win and im glad to know that has representing Alabama as the senator. I do believe the result of this election will have an affect on the U.S. because apparently many people from that state voted for him so they must trust him to be a good leader once again. Although I don't know they ways he goes about his job and duty my research says that he has many opinions about civil rights and seems to be very patriotic and respectful.
The 2010 U.S Senatorial race to out to be a very important one. Not that all the others were not important. The republicans now have the majority in the senate. In my opinion this is a good thing. The house is still led by a democratic majority but there is now at least a balance of power.
ReplyDeleteThis year Republican Rand Paul and Democat Jack Conway ran for KY U.S. senatorial representative. Republican Rand Paul won the race with 56% of the votes. If I had been old enough to vote in the election Rand Paul would have been my choice. Jack Conway according to my research supports many issues that I personally do not support. Rand Paul on the other hand opposes many of the issues that I am against. Over all I think Rand Paul was the better choice and will do more for the people. I take this stance because I have researched both candidates and their platform and the main issues the debated on and I supported Rand pauls platform more than I supported Jack Conway. I believe everyone should be more involved in the choosing of our countries leaders and representatives. But not only should they vote but they should know the platform of that candidate. They need to know who their voting for and what they support. Hopefully the better balance o power will be for the better and we can start turning this country for the better.
billy the squid, i liked your essay and agree that rand paul can make some good chnages
ReplyDeleteto emma, i liked your essay, and am glad that your prediction was correct
ReplyDeletethere were some unfortunate reasons why i did not do my homework 2 weeks ago but the senate race was between rand paul and jack conway. i would have personaly choose rand paul. i dont know what this means for the state of kentucky or the us but we will just have to wait and find out. from what i have heard of what he stands for, i think he should do a great job.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago the assignment was to report about a race for any election of my choosing. I chose something that would affect me as I reported back on it. I chose the Kentucky Senatorial Election. This was between Rand Paul and Jack Conway. Rand Paul won this election (By 150,000 votes) and will be representing us in Washington Dc. Throughout the next two years Rand Paul has a goal set high for the state of Kentucky. He wants to reform the Health care bill and many other things. I Look forward to watching what he does with our country throughout the next few years.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, even though the requirement for this week’s assignments was set very low, you still went up and beyond. I love your love for History, today at work a huge family came in freezzziinngggg their butts off; they started talking to Scott (My Boss) and I about where they have been. They were at the Russell Springs reenactment. This excited me. And it also made me think of you. The Lord has great plans set forth for you and I can totally see the fruits of that in you. Keep Going after the Lord’s heart, your such a great and awesome woman of the Lord!!(:
ReplyDeleteEmma Delaine(: I liked you essay, I thought it was kool how Rogers would get out there with a homemade sign and tell ANYONE that wanted to know, his beliefs about politics. Great essay!
Alexandria ,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your essays from the two before and especially this one.Your essays gave a lot of details about the senate of Alabama. I agreed with you that Shelby will be a good senator for Alabama for sure. Because he did a very great job last time and I read a lot of great stuffs that he did when he was a senator. He has leadership and commitment.Good job !!
Emma ,
Your essay gave really good informations and I enjoy reading it
Oklahoma. I also agreed with you that Coburn from the republican would win this election because Oklahoma has almost always been republican.Good job !!!!
Charity, your essay was good :)
ReplyDeleteYou told us about the election in Kentucky, and that is good, becasue like you said, this election will effect you. You had all important information in your essay! Keep up your good work.
Nang, I liked reading your essay.
ReplyDeleteYou had good arguments and described what you think about the results of the election in Kentucky. I also hope that they will keep theire promisses and that the people who voted for them, are satisfied with the work. Keep up your good work!
Charity, Good job. Im personally glad Rand Paul won and I also look forward to see how he is going to represent Kentucky and where he will take us. I hope all his changes are for the better.
ReplyDeleteNang, I also liked reading your report. It was a good debate and I liked hearing your opinion.
Camden, I enjoyed reading your essay. It was interesting to see how the elections were going in other states, in your case North Carolina. Your essay taught me that there is now balance in the government again and that the republicans can now restrain Obama’s power.
ReplyDeleteBiggin, I liked your essay and I agree on what you said about Obama. Yes, obviously he doesn’t understand what the people of this country really need. Otherwise there would not have been so many wins of the republican party, which were necessary to gain control of the House and therefore limit Obama’s actions.
Elena, good job on your essay. I hope Rand Paul plays a role in putting a stop to abortion. I suppose we'll find out soon enough.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, you did awesome on your essay. I love how you still went above and beyond. Keep it up :)
Camden good job on your essay. I liked how you gave results for a different state. And your view point was in ways like mine.
ReplyDeleteAlexandria - Good job on your essay. I like how you did yours on a different state. It was also really informative. So again great job.
ReplyDeleteNang, very good essay! It' s good that Rand Paul has a lot of experience. I hope they will keep their promises and give us a better future than the one that's coming..
ReplyDeleteCharity(:, very good essay! I also look forward to the changement with all these republicans in washington.
Private Elijah...i always like how your essays are always done first and very informative.
ReplyDeletecharity....like how your essays are alwasy sweet and to the point.
Last homework I already chose the election in California.
ReplyDeleteI was excited who'll win because the election was before a big deal.
Boxer, a Democrats, won with 52%. Fiorina, a Republicans, lost with 43%.
SO it was pretty close.
I hoped Boxer would win because I'm a Democrate in Germany but I'm not sure if means the same interests.
Dear Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteYour Essay is great and it looks for me as you know what you are talking about because its not only a few words. Great Job.
Emma ,
Your essay has pretty good informations about the election of Oklahoma. I agreed with you that Coburn,Republican, would win this election because Oklahoma is nearly always republican.Good job.
I like many others did my essay on the election in Kentucky. Rand Paul did win like i thought and im pretty sure it will be good for us or atleast i hope haha. But in all seriousness i believe he can do it. Well thats it =)
ReplyDeletePaco awsome essay haha short and to the poing like mine =) good job!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth good job on your essay you actually tryed unlike me haha. But your essay was great and you put good work into it =)
ReplyDeleteOk, so I didn't do mine two weeks ago cause it was too hard, and this one is extremly late. But, I would've guessed Conway--I was wrong, Rand Paul won. Why I was for Jack Conway? Who knows, I just like his name. Also I heard alot of bad things about Rand Paul, apparently Jack Conway is worse though.
ReplyDeleteHow will it will affect us? The abortion issue, he might put an end to that ill-conceived legal murdering law, but fat chance of that happening.
Private Elijah, your's was great as always, and long. It's almost like you didnt know we could make these as short as we wanted.
ReplyDeleteSame for you Morgan, yours was long and awesome as well.
Last time I chose the election in California, because I thought it could be interesting
ReplyDeleteand excited election and it was. We had 2 candidates: Boxer, the incumbent from the Democrats who
won with 52% and Carly Fiorina from the Republicans had 43%.
I was fierce who will win about the senator election.
it was a pretty “neck to neck” race.
I thought Carly Fiorna will win, because lots of people were upset about Boxer, because she
is extremely liberal. But it was different. But also I hoped that Boxer will win the election,
because I'm a democrat.
Dear Emily
ReplyDeletei absolutely agree with you in hoping that Rand Paul will do his promises.
I think also he will do a great job for kentucky. But it is not easy to
keep all the promises, because probably everything will be different. The same then Obama.
Dear Alexandria Grace,
I realy like to read your essay and I totally agree what are you saying about the elections in Alabama
You did a good job
I predicted that Rand Paul would win the Kentucky U.S. Senate seat - and HE DID! I've heard preachers preach that we people need to vote for the person who comes closest to what the Bible teaches us. I think Rand Paul was and is that person. I'm so glad he won. I believe that he can really make an impression the next two years - by fighting abortion and cleaning up any mess within the health care reform and by just being a godly man and serving God first and the government second. The Republicans took back the House. I hope this makes a difference for America. I hope that things become more conservative than what they were before.
ReplyDeleteBiggin - I agree with you that there were a lot of unkind and "smearing" type advertisements by Conway toward Paul. I am glad that Paul won and that good won out.
ReplyDeleteEmma, Good essay on the Oklahoma race. You predicted right.
ReplyDelete
