This will be the final history assignment of the year (congratulations, especially to you juniors, for whom this will be the last of your high school career!). I would like to end this year much the same as we did last year, with an opportunity to reflect on what we've learned. In your essay I would like you to choose a) an era other than the present that you think would have been the most interesting/exciting to have lived in and explain why; b) a non-biblical person we have studied that you think has had the most positive influence on the world and explain why; and c) an event that we have studied that you would have loved to have taken part in, and explain why.
Please make sure to post your homework on time, to comment on the posts of your classmates, and to follow the guidelines for these assignments. Only a two more weeks until we wrap things up! God bless!
A) Because you said any time period and not one that we studied, I chose the American Civil War as the most interesting/exciting era I would like to live in. It never is fun to live in a time of war, but because I find the War so fascinating, it would be an interesting time to live in. During every battle I participate in or read about, I always wonder "what if this was real? What would I do?" To live during the actual War would certainly answer those questions. It definatly would be an exciting time. But at the same time it would be horrible, with all the death and destruction.
ReplyDeleteB) Out of the non-biblical people we've studied, who do I think had the most positive influance on the world? My first thought was of Queen Victoria. I thought of her mostly because she interested me before, though not enough to really study about her. I think she had the most positive influance on the world, or Britain at least, because she served as queen so long and Britain thrived in every way underneath her. I can only think of positive influance and no negatives by Queen Victoria.
C) What event that we studied would I love to be a part of? I would love to have been part of the Irish rebellions for freedom against the British. I find it funny that I want to be apart of this when I was sick when we studied it (which actually made me mad. The one thing I wanted to study and I was sick! haha) Because I'm interested in most things Irish, especially the Rebellion in 1916, I think it would be awesome to have witnessed the battle at the GPO (General Post Office) which I don't think we necesarily studied (unless it was mentioned, but I don't know) but it would still be really awesome to see the Rebel leaders who helped set most of Ireland free.
A.) The time period I would be most interested in living through would be the Roaring Twenties. It would be such an encouraging time to be a part of. Everyone was looking forward to the new inventions and discoveries that were being made. It would be different from now because nobody had ever experienced these new enlightenments whereas the new “inventions” being made today are either modifications to things we’ve had before or are not yet available for practical use. I am not saying EVERYTHING is like that, but from my experience and point of view. If we lived during this time period, I believe a new sense of pride and excitement in who we are as a people would be shown.
ReplyDeleteB.) This question is a little more challenging. It is difficult to try and determine who has had the greatest positive impact on the entire world…. I really don’t know. No one military person has positively effected the entire world (that I know of). Looking from the invention stand point, airplanes have opened up to many opportunities for us. From a global view point, the invention of the airplane has been among the most beneficial I believe. Because many contributed to the airplane, I won’t credit one person, but of course Orville and Wilbur Wright were among the most famous. The work of the airplane has opened up opportunities for trade and advances in transportation all over the world.
C.) Lastly, the event I would have loved to take part in… because music is a big part of my life and the lives of many others, I would love to have witnessed the development of jazz. So many other kinds of music come from jazz and jazz is such a complicated style to play. It would be amazing to watch the innovation and stylistic excellence put into that music and then played for those who would listen. Now we can contribute so much, musically, to that style formation.
Private Elijah,
ReplyDeleteWhy does it not surprise me that you would like to have lived during the Civil War? ha You're such a genius when it comes to this particular era in history. I personally dont think I would like to have lived during this specific time but I do agree the American Civil War is so fascinating and I'd like to learn more about it.
I also think it would be pretty awesome to be a part of the Irish rebellions, especially since we recently visited Ireland :P and we learned a lot of Irelands history and incredible stories. Good Job!!
Emily C.,
ReplyDeleteGreat Job on your report. I think the roaring twenties would have been a very exciting time period to be a part of. The things you said are so true, such as how then the inventions were completely new, not just a modified version of an older invention. I definitely agree that this era would have been very interesting and exciting!!
I also things its pretty difficult to discuss just one person for option B. but I think your choice is a great one so bravo. haha. And I think your answer to the last question fits you so much cause I know you love music; the complexity of it fascinating. Good Job
I chose to write my last essay on the Renaissance Era, I believe this would be an interesting era to live in for many different reasons. I enjoy the artistic jiff of it, I’ve never been an artsy person, so this fascinates me. Also, this time period was known for breaking through devastation. The Renaissance worked backwards. They went from devastation into happiness and peace as of here today we work into devastation because as a whole we only worry for today.
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure that Mr. Aker’s would classify Hitler as present day, but I wouldn’t, so I decided to write about him, I’ve always found the way Hitler worked interesting. Hitler wasn’t born a German, he was born in Austria and had German family and he then classified himself as a German. It amazes me that so many people would stand by Hitler and allow him to mistreat and abuse Jews, Gypsies, and Jehovah’ s Witnesses. For Hitler to be successful majority had to agree, and he was successful in the beginning.
I would have loved to be alive while Henry VIII was around. Being around all of today’s “baby daddy’s” and “baby momma’s”; the divorce, the violence. I think it would be really interesting to be a part of Henry’s time period, to understand and develop how it was a big deal to the people, or if it was just something that happened like it does today. I’ve always been curious to whether or not Henry got negative attention because it was something you didn’t do or if it was because he was King and everyone looked up to him.

Emily Cox,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your essay. I agree I think it would be incredible to live through the Roaring Twenties! Today inventions are expected, in those days it was amazing to everyone when an invention we take today for granted was made! Also, your part c, i liked. I would have enjoyed being a part of that as well. Most of us don't take the time to appreciate what we have now.
Private Elijah,
ReplyDeleteI'm not shocked at all that you picked to American Civil War, and to be quite honest I wonder time to time what it would be like to live through it. With all the bad things going on all i can imagine is depression. But, when nothing else, i think how nice it would be to fight so hard for something you love and desire to keep the way it was before.
Also, The Irish, I think it would be awesome to live there!
Emily C.
ReplyDeleteGood essay! Good choose of chosing the airplane for the second question. That is a very hard question to answer and you answered it very well! Good job!!
Emily Ann,
I find it interesting that you chose Hitler for the second question. I definatly didn't even begin to consider him haha I didn't know that he was born in Austria and not Germany. Though, that makes my Mom's jokes about being related to him make sence haha (my family is from Austria) I also can not see how anybody could let him abuse all those innocent people. Just shows how different times can be, even though that was only a mere 50 or so years ago. Good essay!!
A) I would loved to have lived in the Roaring Twenties. We discussed in class, the positivity of the people in this time. The world could use this sort of attitude these days. Not only the positivity of the peole, but the new developments/inventions the people were coming up with was extraordinary for the time.
ReplyDeleteB)A man that caught my attention was Winston Churchill. I'm not so sure why, but he did. Churchill was the UK Prime Minister twice, once from 1940-1945 and again from 1951-1955. He is also widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders.
c) I already mentioned that i would have loved to have lived in the Roaring Twenties, and one reason is because i personally enjoy jazz music. The invention of jazz music helped other people with the love for music to create their own styles. Today we have so many styles of music because of it. So i give credit to the many people that started and perfected jazz music.
Emily Cox, appearently you and i agree on quite a bit. We both said that we would loved to have lived in the Roaring Twenties and we both talked about the invention and the positivity of the people. Also we both talked about jazz. We both mentioned how many styles of music come from jazz. Anyway, great essay! Good job!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, Surprise! Surprise! Imagine that, Elizabeth writing about the American Civil War. xD Sorry, Great essay! I would actually liked to have lived during that time also. It would be interesting to see all the things i've read in the history books played out. Again, great essay!
I think that this home work assignment is probably the one that has made me think the hardest. There are so many time periods that had so many interesting events happen during them. The time period that I think would be the most interesting to live during would be during the height of the Roman or Greek Empires. During this time there were a lot of great advances and these empires also set the foundation for western civilization. These were the first to use a democratic system of government and they valued their citizens greatly. An interesting side note, the Roman Empire viewed crucifixion such a disgrace that roman citizens could not be put to death by this means no matter how vile the offence. I think that living in this time period would really help to give a new perspective on why modern cultures are the way they are.
ReplyDeleteIt is really hard to name one person who had the most positive influence on the world. There are so many influential people like Martin Luther, F.D.R., and of course Ronald Reagan. The person that I think had the biggest positive influence is General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was the commander of the allied forces in Europe and became president of the United Sates. I chose him because he gives a face and name to all those who fought to keep Europe free during World War Two.
The event that I would have liked to take part in is D-Day. The reason for this is because this is one of the most important days in history. It marked the point when the allies began their offensive against Germany.
A.) For me to choose just one era that I would have like to live in is really difficult. I love all history and past cultures. I would have really loved to live in Scotland or Ireland during the 1600's. I find those two countries most interesting. Not only because much of my family heritage has come from Ireland and Scotland is much like Ireland but also because their cultures are so intrigueing. The reason I specifically choose the sixteen hundreds is because there was so much religious unrest. People were truly adamant about what they believed and took a stand for their beliefs. I love that about that time period.
ReplyDeleteB.) I don’t think one person could take the title of being the most positively influential person in history. So, my non-biblical person we have studied that has had a lot but not necessarily the most positive influence is Queen Elizabeth (Good Queen Bess). Queen Elizabeth was for the most part a benevolent ruler. She returned England to protastantism but was not cruel to Catholics. She protected England from Spanish invasion by appointing the best military leaders possible. During her time England flourished. William Shakespeare known as one of the greatest playwrights of all time lived, and created his masterpieces under her rule. She encouraged and funded exploration as well. So there is a quick insight to Elizabeth I reign.
C.) I think I would have liked to have taken part in World War II. Even though it was a time of great sadness and was the deadliest war in history it was also a time when women began to participate in the war as more than just nurses. Women become spies and special agents. Some even flew planes though they weren't allowed to engage in combat. During WWII there was a shortage of pilots because they were all engaged in air combat so the government decided to experiment. They began to train women to take military aircrafts from one place to another, test them and, tow targets for training. I would have loved to be one of those women who did that. They were truly courageous to step out and do something no women had ever done before even though they were judged for it and received no honors or military standing.
Private Elija, you're essay was good... as always. I also would have love to have lived during the Civil War era. That used to be my favorite thing to study in history. I just love that time period and the next 20 or so years after. But of course I probably could say that about nearly every time period in history. I also would absolutely loooovvvveee to take part in the Irish rebellion for freedom. As I said in my essay much of my family heritage is Irish and i just love Ireland so that would have made me very happy to take part in those rebellions.
ReplyDeleteEmily Ann, Good essay. I think it is funny you choose Hitler. (Did you notice it said person with the most positive influence?) Its funny though because before I noticed it said person with most positive influence I was actually thinking of maybe writing about him. Because he really did have a HUGE impact on the world. other than the dissatisfaction of the ending of World War I, Hitler had to have been the biggest instigator of World War II. He authorized and instigated the killing of millions upon millions of people. But I do have to give him props for being so influential and smart. He really outsmarted a lot of people and he had people cheering his name across Europe ( at first anyway). So though he wasn't very positively influential he had a huge huge impact on people across the world even.
ReplyDeleteEmily Lynn, well, I can’t help but comment on your essay because it’s so close to mine! I did like the point you made about the positivity of the people. Today, so many things we hear are negative. This is corrupted, that is deteriorating, this leader has just admitted his acts… to be a part of a period where everyone had some good thing in common would be wonderful. I can just imagine the towns and cities during those times. People were walking around in anticipation of the future. They were enthusiastic about what was happening. It would be great!!
ReplyDeleteEmily Ann, I really enjoyed your essay. I agree that the Renaissance would have been amazing to live through. The art and entire culture of this time was gorgeous. I often times think of the clothes and societies of the people and would really like to just catch a small glimpse of the attitudes of the people during this time. It would be very exciting.
The spirit of the roaring twenties was marked by the general feeling of modernity. The phrase was used to describe the period in the l920's of social, artistic and cultural dynamism.
ReplyDeleteThe "hub" of the roaring twenties came from cities mostly in North America, but also London, Berlin and Paris, Everything seemed feasible through modern technology. Automobiles, moving pictures and radio changed how information was obtained. It was a very interesting and exciting time to live even though there was a strong sense of false security.
F.D.R. was the 32nd President of the United States. He lead the United States during a time of world wide economic crises and world war. He
forged a durable coalition that realigned America politics for decades. F.D.R.'s inaugural address was a speech that was to go down as a history maker.
"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear-itself-nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory." This came from a man who contracted adult polio st age 31. He provided hope in some of the world's darkest time.
The 1950's was a time I would have liked to have taken part in. Capitalism vs. Communism. Rosa parks and Martin Luther King Jr. in 1955. NASA was organized. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association was founded as well as Campus Crusade for Chrest. Miles Davis, Johnny
Cash, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles were music superstars!

A) An era that I would have liked to live in would be during World War II. I know that it sounds rough but I would just like to see how those people lived, and felt in a dark time like that. To me WWII sometimes seems so unreal and long, long ago, but I have to keep in mind that it wasn’t that long because I still have grandparents who grew up during that time. I would like to see how the war affected the people and how it was to live in danger and fear for such a long time.
ReplyDeleteB) A non-biblical person that has had the most positive influence on the world to me would be Nelson Mandela. He was a very strong man who stood up for black people’s rights in a country and time where white people had the saying. He even died for fighting for what was important to him, which I think is a very honorable act.
C) An event that I would have loved to take part in is the coronation of Napoleon. That is because Napoleon was such an important person and made a major impact on the world. Also, I think it was just a unique ceremony because Napoleon himself put the crown on his head. I have never heard that that had ever happened before or that someone did that again after Napoleon.
If i had to choose an era to live in, i probably would have to choose the roaring twenties. The twenties was a time of optimism and prosperity at the time. It would have been cool because all sorts of new inventions were coming out and new inventions, like the atomic bomb. It would have been insipring i think because the U. S. had just made an identity for itself among the most elite nations, and was starting to become in control. It had to be a positive time with everything going their way and so many new good changes were occurring.
ReplyDeleteFor this question, it is very hard to determine, there are many people who had a lot of influence upon the world positiivly. But i think i would have to say Alexander the great. I say this because since he conquered so much land, he started cultural diffusion, where that the things that rome were making were getting introducing in Egypt, and much more.
The event i would have loved to take part in the most, is another hard one, but probably the dropping of the atomic bomb, even though it killed a lot of people, it saved so many more millions.
A) A time period that I would love to have lived in would definitely been Ancient Greece. Greece has always fascinated me since I was a youngin. The mythology in particular. Seeing how they would try and please whatever god they worshiped and hearing the old tales of the heroes are just completely fascinating. Also Greece was what made us today. They were the very first to use a democracy, and most of our laws are directly influenced by them as well.
ReplyDeleteB) This question was a tough one. I had to decide though on the Wright brothers. Again since I was little, I’ve been interested in planes. These 2 brothers were the very first to fly, and started a revolution in the air. Without them where would we be today? People ride planes everyday for many different reasons. Some travel to see family in another state. Some take hour long flights to get to business meetings across the globe. And of course we use them for military. We can now fly unmanned drones into combat to help save our soldiers from having to die on foot.
C) Finally an even that I would like to take part in. I would have to say either World War 1 or 2. The events that took place during this time were absolutely world changing. They haven’t been that interesting to me in the past, but when you look at them it’s hard to miss the extraordinary events that took place.
a) I chose Renaissance Era because he Renaissance has a long and complex historiography, and there has been much debate among historians as to the usefulness of Renaissance as a term and as a historical delineation. Some have called into question whether the Renaissance was a cultural "advance" from the Middle Ages, instead seeing it as a period of pessimism and nostalgia for the classical age
ReplyDeleteb) In my opinion non-biblical people didn’t have their hearts focus on God and they were thinking about lands and power so they started the wars and battles.and I think those are the differences.
c) I would like to live in jazz age be personally I love classical music and I think it wuld be really interested to like in the place that people around listen to jazz music .Jazz, despite competition with classical music, rose in popularity and helped to generate a cultural shift. Dances like the Charleston, developed by African Americans, suddenly became popular among younger demographics. With the beginning of large-scale radio broadcasts in 1922 .In 930s and 1940s that many women jazz singers, such as Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday were recognized as successful artists in the music world. Women such as pianist Billy Tipton dressed up like a man to gain acceptance into society as an artist. These women were persistent in striving to make their names known in the music industry and lead the way for many more women artists to com
a) I think I would be very interested to go back to the Renaissance time period. And the reason is I would love to see all the great art and the actual paintings they had. I don’t really know why this is so interesting to me, but the paintings, sculptures and decorative arts of the Renaissance time are just amazing to me. They also developed in philosophy, literature, music and science. The Renaissance art gave artists the opportunity to develop other techniques in their style.
ReplyDeleteb) Alexander the Great, he lived from 356- 323 BC. He was the king of Macedon, which is a state in the north eastern region of Greece. When Alexander the Great was only thirty years old, he had already conquered the largest emperor in ancient history. He was one of the most successful commanders of all time and undefeated in battle.
c) I think to be in the time when Jazz became popular would probably be very cool. Even though I am definitely not a very big Jazz fan, music is very important for me and so it would be interesting for me. Jazz is a very traditional style of music and started at the beginning of the 20th century.
A) So the time period that I think would be the most exciting to have lived in is the roaring twenties. I know other people mentioned this too but honestly who wouldn’t want to live in a time period as exciting and optimistic as this. There were so many new inventions mechanically and artistically. There were new art types, new music, it was just a huge change transformation from the past to the present/ future. I’m thankful for this time period.
ReplyDeleteB) The person I believe that has been the most influential person in a positive way could be so many people. Its hard to choose because looking back in history to all the people have a studied and looking at their accomplishments shows that so many people, men and women have changed our world drastically. So, since I do have to select one person im just gonna say Queen Elizabeth. She was such a wonderful example and leader to the people in a positive way of course. As many of us know William Shakespeare has an enormous part in our English today, and Queen Elizabeth supported his work. Personally I also think it would have been pretty exciting to live under the rule of Queen Elizabeth.
C) Lastly, an event that we have studied that I would have loved to take part in would definitely have to be World War I. Surprising, I know. I just find this war so fascinating and interesting. I know it was a traumatic war and im not saying I would have liked to be active in it but it just fascinates me. That’s it.
Alexandria Grace, Good job on your essay! I found it interesting that you chose Queen Elizabeth as the person that made the most positive impact on this world. I unfortunately don’t remember studying her, but I found it interesting to learn that she knew William Shakespeare and even supported him. And I definitely agree with you that it is hard to choose a person for that category, because so many people have made a positive impact on this world in so many different ways.
ReplyDeleteEileen, I really liked your essay and your choices for each question. Music is very important to me as well, I can’t imagine living without it. I found it very interesting when we studied the Renaissance at school so I would love to travel back to that time and meet artists like Raffael or DaVinci. When I went to Rome I really enjoyed looking at paintings like the Mona Lisa or the Sistine Chapel. The perseverance and precision of those artists amazes me.
A time period i think i would like to live in would be the Roaring Twenties like many other people have said. It was a very very posative time. If people were to start being like that today im not sure that many would know what to do. It would be very good but i for one really dont see that happening at all. A person or people that really got me is probably any one military wise. There very wise and brave they put alot on the line for people and they exspact nothing in return. That to me is a very noble and well respected person. Iv got family thats been in the war long ago and recently. They are some of the best people i know. Most people really dont think about it either were just here safe and it slips the minds of many many people. Therefore thats why i pick just all military people in general. But like i was talking about in the beginning i really think that time would be good for me. Thats really my personality to just try to be posative about things and really dislike the bad part and negative things.
ReplyDeleteEmily Lynn i really really enjoyed reading your essay and seeing what you had to say. We have the same likes about mant things and even this. Your essay was very well worded. I really agree on the first part where the world could use that now. I really agree on that one the world now is so pitiful and upsetting that we barely can function like normal people. Its really sad when you think about it.All in all your essay was very good. =)
ReplyDeleteNang you did a really really good essay! i always enjoy reading yours and then i think of mine and yours is much better! You obviously dont just pick and write you pick something that really catches your interest. Your essay was worded very well and you seem to know what your talking about. I really agree on the second paragraph. You cant just say oh yeah i have Jesus and not open his book thats like saying yeah i can swim but never touching water. Just not likely. So yeah you gotta do more then say yep i got Jesus. All in all your essay was very good!
ReplyDeleteTo Alex grace, great job on your essay, i Really liked it, and enjoyed reading about you own opinions on these things. I have to agree with you, i think the roaring twenties would have been the most exciting period to live in, other than the one that we are living in right now. Queen Elizabeth was a great example of a person that had a great influence on the world in a positive way, as were many other people that we discussed. I also think it is very interesting that you would want to be a part of w w 1. it is a very interesting war though, with the first time that most of the world had been involved in a war. But great job on your essay Alex, i really liked it, and enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteMorgan, I liked reading your essay. I thought it was very interesting that you chose World War II as an event you would like to take place in. But I also understand, it was a terrible war but society changed and woman began to get important in war too. It is amazing, but I think War changes a lot of things, especially when it is over, you maybe think different and for woman, World War II and especially afterwards made a big difference for them.
ReplyDeleteStella, I agree Napoleon and his crown ceremony was probably very unique. It is a little funny to me that he felt so powerful to crown himself. I think it would be very interesting to see this ceremony so I definitely understand why you would like to go back and see it yourself.
Good job on your essay!
Private Elijah: Great idea about Queen Victoria. She did have a positive influence on all the world. England advanced and the world advanced while she was alive. It's amazing that you don;t hear of scandals from either she or her husband. She and her husband brought a God conciseness to the kingdom's they ruled in. Science advanced, medicine advanced, literature advanced. Queen Victoria's children married into many of the European kingdom's. Queen Victoria brought a stability to England when they had desperately needed it.
ReplyDeletePaco: Great thought on Ancient Greece being a fascinating time in history. I think the Greek civil wars would have been an eye opener. The Wright brothers starting a revolution in the air is a great idea. Man had been trying to fly for a long time and what happened at Kitty Hawk changed the world as we now see it. England changed between WWI and WWII the culture of the nobles and the commoners started to blend because of taxation that took place because of the wars.
Elizabeth, the American Civil War? Psht, never saw that one coming! I’d have to agree though, the Civil War would be a quite interesting time to be alive. Queen Victoria was indeed a very positive influence to the world. Its very true that Britain had one of its most prosperous eras under her rule. Now I m quite surprised in your even you want to take place in. I thought for sure you would have picked the Civil War again. You reenact all the time so I thought you would love to take place in an actual battle in the real war.
ReplyDeleteAlexandria Grace, like most you said that youd like to live in the Roaring Twenties. This time period was indeed very fascinating. Many, many changes take place in this time period, and so many technological advances took place. And about you wanting to take place in WW1, like you said, you wouldn’t have liked to be active in it, however have you thought about maybe have been one of the nurses? Just a thought.

ReplyDeleteA) I would like to go to the age of the Renaissance Era because the it has a long and complex story. I just think these people kind of changed the world. I like the way people started thinking/feeling that the people in the time of the ancient greek or rome had a much nicer life. I think it was a great and important age with a lot of famous people like Leonardo DaVinci.
B) A non-biblical person who has had the most positive influence on the world in my opinion may be Nelson Mandela. He was a great man who wanted that black people have rights in a country in a time where white people said what to do. I think thats caracter. A great person!
C) I think I would have loved to take World War II in parts. Even though it was a big and long time sadness and was the deadliest war in history. It is one of the most worst time for familys in germany especially for kids. A lot of their fathers had to go to war and their mums had to work instead of the men. The oldest kids had to raise up their brothers and sisters sometimes. I hear a lot of these stories from my grandparents. So I would loved to know more about the war.
Dear Morgan,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your essay. I thought it was pretty interesting that you chose World War II and that you talked about woman. I never actually thought about that part and I think you are right. I think War changes a lot of things but I dont know if the war was good for women even though they got different/better jobs. Good Job!
Dear Paco,
Nice essay about the Ancient Greece. I agree and think it was a fascinating time in history too. I think the Greek civil wars would have been an eye opener. And I also think that the Wright brothers were somehow revolutionists. If even if it was just in the air. Man had been trying to fly for a long time and who knows if we would fly if that at Kitty Hawk wouldnt have happened. But the great inventions also had a bad part because they were used in war.
A) I know that a lot of people have chosen the 20’s; I guess because it’s such a recent thing we have studied but I have to agree. I think I would have loved to live during such an optimistic time period. Society today is just so negative and there is always some scandal or something to complain about. I feel like in the 20’s they just looked past everything wrong that was going on in the world and just moved on with their lives.
ReplyDeleteB) This is the hardest for me to decide because you can’t pick just one non-biblical person and say they are THE most influential person in history unless you narrowed it down to different places or subjects like a country on inventions of some sort. I think that one of the most influential people for America alone would have to be Christopher Columbus for obvious reasons. The most important inventor I think would have to be Albert Einstein for the light bulb. That technology alone has changed our world.
C) I would have to say that it would have been cool to have lived through the Great Awakening. It would have been a pretty cool experience. I think that the world needs that kind of passionate revival in today’s times. I bet it would have been a very life changing experience to have lived through that time.
YEAHHHHHHHHH no more history homework!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D
Emily Dungan: I liked your essay a lot. I pretty much could agree to every part of it. I also think Winston Churchill is a pretty important part of history. Seems like a majority of people chose the twenties as the era they would like to live in. I guess because we don’t really experience that type of optimistic environment in our world today. It would for sure be pretty awesome to see what that would be like.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth: haha I could have guessed what that first paragraph would have been. You sort of do live out that time period on the weekends huh? I’ve really enjoyed reading your essays this whole year. They are always very detailed and make sense to read; It no just a bunch of random facts pushed together to make a decent essay. Good job!
A) I think I would love to live my high school years sometime during the 1980s. Honestly, mostly because of the styles and music but also because of how rapidly technology was just beginning to grow. I mean, c'mon...The Cosby Show first aired in 1984! I think the 80s had to be a ton of fun....
ReplyDeleteB) I'm going to have to agree with Emma on this one. There are toooo many people to really choose from but I'm going to go with Albert Einstein. He only came up with what we know as the Theory of Relativity...This man contributed so much to the math and science world!
C) I would really like to have lived through the time in which Jazz was starting such a commotion. I don't personally have Jazz music on my iPod or anything, but I don't dislike it. I also know that it has had such an influence on today's music. Music is pretty important to me and I think that seeing the birth of it all would have been amazing.
