The purpose of this class is to teach you valuable information
about our western culture and cause you to think more deeply about our present
and future. In this week's assignment we will continue our study of the Renaissance,
specifically focusing on the tremendous art work that was created. I would like
you to begin by reading an overview of the period found at the link
http://www.learner.org/interactives/renaissance/ and comparing the Renaissance
period to today. How are we different? How are we alike?
Then look at
the artwork found at http://history.hanover.edu/courses/art/111ren.html . Select
a single piece of artwork that appeals to you and introduce it in your essay.
Who was the artist and when was the work created? Where was the work
created/where is it today (if it is mobile)? Why does this particular piece
appeal to you?
The requirements for this assignment are exactly the same
as those for all preceding assignments. God bless!
Renaissance is a French word that means “rebirth”, its meaning is related with the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe from the 14th through the 16th centuries. Many of these changes were related to the arts and how the artists became to make different kinds of paintings. During this time Europe, that was in a economic stagnation of the Middle Ages, experienced a time of financial growth.
ReplyDeleteAbout the style of painting of the artists changed a lot since the renaissance to now a day. Today`s art is all about self expression, abstract art and modern art. In the renaissance there was a desire for perfection, devotion and idealization. Another thing is that a long time ago I feel like artists were praised for their work and treated like celebrities, and today that is not the case. Today I don't think there is as big of a demand for art, and the job market for artists isn't that extensive.
The piece of art work that I chose for this assignment was “The Creation of Adam”. The artist behind this amazing piece of artwork is Michelangelo.
“The Creation of Adam” was created in approximately 1512, in the Sistine Chapel ceiling. It is traditionally thought to illustrate the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God breathes life into Adam, the first man.
This particular piece of art appeals to me mainly because Michelangelo used to usually paint with a representation of a certain part of the human anatomy, but when he was making this amazing painting he was prohibited to do this, so he painted the anatomy of a human brain, without nobody noticing, that is represented by the background figures and shapes portrayed behind the figure of God.
Great job on your essay, Eduardo! I love the points you made about the differences in the abstract work of modern day painters and the idolized and perfectionist artists of the Renaissance. I also agree with you that the demand for art and artists is quickly dropping now days. I enjoyed learning about “The Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo. That is really neat that Michelangelo painted the anatomy of the human brain in the background of his awesome painting. Michelangelo was one of the many artist geniuses of the Renaissance.
DeleteVery good jod on the assignment for this week Ed. I really enjoyed reading your essay. t was very interesting. You made some really great points.I really enjoy The Creation of Adam too. It is a very good piece of art.
DeleteThis weeks essay is about a topic that appeals to me very little. But due to this history assignment I have to talk about it. I think that the Italian renaissance is very different that life in America today in that in the Italian renaissance it was a time of financial growth and in the United States today it is the complete opposite because our national debt is in the upper teen trillions and counting at a dangously high rate. This is the exact opposite of financial growth. But the Italian renaissance is like in the U.S today in some ways in that scientific thought is at an all time high. With all our new technology we can discover so much more and therefore we do. Look at the things that have been discovered in the past ten years. There’s way more than you would think. With all the new science it opens many more doors for things like new phones. Computers and lots of other things. The second part of this essay is to pick a painting I am going to pick the kiss of Judas by Giotto it was painted and still is located in Scrovegni (Arena) Chapel, near Padua this painting was starts in 1304 and finished in 1306. This painting appeals to me because it has always amazed me how someone so close and that knew all the miracles Jesus had done can betray him like that and he had the nerve to kiss him before he gets taken away to get crucified
ReplyDeleteThe definition of the word Renaissance clearly means "rebirth." It was a time for Europe to rebuild from all of the past turmoil. However, it was extremely different than our society in the United States today. For instance, in the Middle Ages, there were three different classes: peasants, nobles, and kings. Also, the merchant or middle class became very wealthy. They had enough money and more from buying cheaply and selling for profits. Today, our society is in a huge economic deficit, and it is hard to find a good paying job for most Americans.
ReplyDeleteFor my piece of artwork, I chose "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci. This appeals to me particularly because it shows the emotions and attitudes of each of Jesus's twelve disciples when he explained that one of the twelve would betray him. This work was created in the year 1498. An accurate, full-scale copy that was the main source for the restoration of the original painting included several lost details such as Christ's feet and the salt cellar spilled by Judas. All of the disciples have a different expression for Jesus' message to them. For example, Bartholomew, James, and Andrew form a group of three and are pictured as if they are surprised. Judas Iscariot, Peter, and John also form a group of three. Judas is wearing green and blue. You can also tell by his shadow that his face is withdrawn. I think Leonardo da Vinci did an amazing job of portraying every person in one of his most famous works of art.
Good work on your assignment, McKenzie! The similarities and differences you made about the Renaissance and the modern day world were very true. I loved your choice of art work. “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci is also one of my favorite works of art. Your descriptions of each of the different characters helped me to better understand and appreciate this fine piece of artwork.
DeleteRenaissance is simply just a French word for rebirth, and that’s exactly what it was. It was a rebirth of education, science, art, literature music, and a better life altogether. It happened during the 14th to 16 century in Europe. Whenever Gutenburg invented the printing press marks the beginning of the Renaissance. It allowed communication to get much better and it made everyone get more literate and they wanted to learn how to read. I don’t think most Americans enjoy artwork as much now as they did in the Renaissance. The invention of the Internet though, was a little bit like the printing press in Europe, just much more advanced. It also allowed information to get spread much easier. In today’s world, you can have all the information you could ever need, at the click of a mouse. The painting I chose to talk about is The Last Supper by Leonardo de Vinci. It appeals to me because It is pretty awesome. It is huge. Its 15 feet by 29 feet, and covers an entire wall. The original mural is on a wall of he refectory (dining hall) in the conbent of santa maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. It took three years to complete. It was started in 1495 and finished in 1498. It is currently in the royal academy of arts in London. I think this is a very awesome work of art. I want to see it in person someday because I think it is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteVery good job on your essay this week lexie. I really enjoyed reading it. The lAst Supper is my favorite painting and Im glad that other people share the same feelings for this great painting as i have. You did a really good job explaing the details of your piece of art. Again very good job and keep up the good work.
DeleteThe Renaissance was one of the most important and influential time periods in all of history. Lasting from 1350-1450, it was known as the “rebirth.” This name totally fits it, because so many impacting and life changing changes occurred that the old life no longer existed and the new world or “new birth” had begun. One of the new changes was that of the middle class. Before there were just two groups, the nobles and the peasants, but after the Crusades the merchants (or middle class) began developing. The middle class is one major similarity that both us and the people of the Renaissance have and live by. One of the many differences between the Renaissance and our modern day world is that the people of the Renaissance were highly focused on art and literature, whereas in modern day with the great use of technology we are beginning to lose our need for the arts.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, the Renaissance was the time, in which, the greatest artists and artistry was produced. One widely known work of art I find intriguing is The School of Athens. This exceptional work of art was created by the amazing artist Raphael between 1510 and 1511. Located in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, where it is and has always been, this picture displays some of the philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, in Athens, Greece during that time period.
I find The School of Athens to be so fascinating because of the realistic features portrayed by the Artist. The vibrant colors bring to life the characters and their lifestyle in the painting. I think that The School of Athens is absolutely astonishing.
“Rebirth” is a word that’s pretty much self- explanatory. The Renaissance was times were Europe simply did go through a 180 degree turn. It was where things exploded with art and humanities. It was a time to think about the feudal system and what that was all about. The Italian Renaissance as we know went through the Bubonic Plague which was called the “silent death.” This plague killed about half of the population which led to an economic depression. I think we are different because they have more of an artistic mind-set and more of a romanticism way of thinking. As of America, we are just a mind-set of go, go, go all the time and we don’t have fantastic artist just being discovered in America. Well the website for the art stuff didn’t work so I picked Giotto’s works of art. I did some research of his works and I came to the conclusion that most of his works had some sort of a Christian perspective to them. I am too familiar with Giotto’s background, but it did look like a lot of his works had Christian theme to it. Giotto’s work of art called Crucifix was the one that caught my eye. It is a picture of Jesus on the cross dying. Also, he has some art pieces, on the internet, with angels and different things that are in the Bible. It makes you wonder if he had a Christian Background. Check some out and see what you think about them.
ReplyDeleteGreat essay, Bethany! You had a great point when you talked about how Americans all have a mindset of go, go, go all the time. Your essay was very well written.
DeleteGreat job on your essay, Bethany! I had some trouble with the site also, but thankfully I finally got it to work. Giotto was a great artist and is known for being the first "new age" artist of the Renaissance era. Your essay was written well. I think Giotto has to have a Christian background like must of the artists from that time period did. Art used to be mostly religious themes unlike today. Again great job on your essay!
DeleteThe renaissance or “rebirth” took Europe by storm from 1350-1450. The renaissance is so important because it brought about new philosophies, literature, an art “explosion,” and the rise of the middle class. I believe that the renaissance and the present day are quite different. In the Renaissance, the fine arts were greatly appreciated and people thirsted for knowledge. Some present day artists are acknowledged, but most people know very little about them. As for the thirst for knowledge, let’s face it, people are becoming more and more reliant on technology and are becoming quite indolent. In the renaissance knowledge was a privilege, and today we treat it as a “given.” However, we are very similar to the Renaissance because of the dominant middle class.
ReplyDeleteThe piece of art from the Renaissance that I chose to focus on was Raphael’s painting, Lo Spasimo or Christ Falling on the Way to Calvary. It was painted between the years of 1514-1516 and was commissioned to painted by the Sicilian Monastery of Santa Maria della Spasimo. The Paining was shipped from Raphael to Sicily, but the ship carrying it struck a rock and sunk. However, the painting survived and the monks that found it declared it a miracle. In 1622 the painting was bought by Spain, but retrieved years later by Napoleon in one of his war ambushes. While in France, it was transferred to canvas. As of today, the painting is in poor condition (after surviving a ship wreck and being transferred to canvas it’s no surprise) and is in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. I chose this work of art because of the emotion it captures and the pain of the Crucifixion
Thank you,
Rebecca Dunmore
Good essay, Rebecca. I thought it was very well written and and very informative. I agree that Raphael was a truly amazing painter. I also liked how you mentioned how we are similar to the Renaissance because of our large middle class.
DeleteThere are so many differences between today’s modern culture and that of Italy during the Renaissance. But with as many differences as there are on the other hand there are also a lot of similarities. Like the importance and emphasis we put on art. To this day so many of the painters from the renaissance are admired and studied. Religion is also very important though not exactly in the same way. A lot of the world claims some religion or other though very few people practice whatever religion they claim. And another similarity between now and then is our society structure. Though we have a democracy we still have a single ruler (our president, their king) , nobles (our upper class/ wealthy) , merchants (middle class/ business men and women), and peasants (poor or homeless).
ReplyDeleteThough we don’t produce master pieces of art quite like the renaissance men and women there is one piece I find truly awe inspiring. Giotto’s work on the Scrovegni Chapel. Looking at the beautiful work done on that chapel just shocks and amazes me that some would take the time to paint something as magnificent as that. The Scrovegni Chapel is found in Padua, Veneto, Italy and is, obviously, not moble.
For this week’s assignment I will be talking about the Renaissance and how we are different and alike. Some ways that we are different would be the nobles back then were like our farmers today. Our farmers aren’t all poor but the wake up at the crack of dawn to milk the cows, and gather eggs, and etc. they would then go to bed after dark to make sure the animals were all pleasant, and the crops were taken care of. Another way they were the same would be the Plague caused them to go into an economic depression. I don’t think that we are in a depression but I know that we’re in a recession and that could lead to a depression. Now some way that we are different, a way they were different was sailors were only able to go so far they had limits, today there are really no limits to where you can go except some place that could like kill you but I guess if you were stupid and still wanted to go you could. Another difference would be, today we do not have a do it yourself printing press. We have machines that can do it in literally seconds or less. This will make the process of making papers and flyers and printing things at home easier than it would have been back then. I must now pick a piece of artwork and the artwork I have chosen was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. It was painted in 1498 and the title is The Last Supper. The original mural is on a wall of the refectory (dining hall) in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. This picture appeals to me in the way that when I look at it I think about what Jesus was saying at that exact moment. I would have loved to be there. That would defiantly be in the top 5 places to time travel back to!
ReplyDeleteGreat essay! You had some really good points and The Last Supper was a really pretty painting, along with many others during that time.
DeleteThis week was kind of easy; we are supposed to write about the Renaissance which means "rebirth". So here are something you should know about that time and age and how we have some differences some similarity. So we are different from the Renaissance because this is 2012, not 1066. Also there were more divided social classes back in to Renaissance time then there is now. Like the middle class really helped out because they had enough money and more from buying cheaply and selling for profits. And today we are kind of drowning in our pool of debt. Which we need to get a hold of and stop spending money. (But that can be for another time and essay.)
ReplyDeleteThe piece of art work I will be writing about is the Masaccio, Brancacci Chapel of the Trinity in Florence. I picked this one because one day I would really like to go see it and this painting is really deep and you can really get a lot of things from it! The "Trinity" is thought to be painted in 1425-1427. This painting was one of his last major commissions, and is considered to be one of his masterpieces. Sadly he died in late 1428 at the age of 26, or having just turned 27, leaving behind a relatively small body of work. Also in this painting it is said that it looks like God is standing. But in most painting back then God was often represented by a hand. As to say he was a unrealistic God. This is a good indication of Humanism in the Renaissance.
The word Renaissance means “rebirth.” During this time arts, science, and political thoughts became popular. It was an age of new interests and discoveries and was considered the beginning of modern history. How things were then are pretty different then they are now. In the Middle Ages, there were three different social classes: kings, nobles, and then the peasants. The middle class rose by buying things cheaply and making a big profit off of things. Today, however, the middle class is slowly degrading. Our economy just seems to be getting worse, and it’s harder for people to find jobs. Also, the art now is way different. We have much more technology and people don’t seem to sit down and paint as much. Photography, graphic design, and things like that are big now, and they’re a more modern form of art.
ReplyDeletePaintings, sculptures, and architecture were influenced by the Renaissance. Paintings became more colorful and humanistic. Giotto was the first to paint in this style. Two of great artist during this time were Leonardo de Vinci, known as a Renaissance man, and Michelangelo. Leonardo de Vinci was well known for the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper paintings. Not only was he a great artist, he was also a scientist and inventor. Another great artist was Michelangelo who painted the Sistine Chapel. This is the piece of art that stood out to me the most. It’s amazing that one man painted the whole thing by himself and it looks beautiful. Michelangelo started painting this in 1508 and finished in 1512. This painting can still be seen today on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
The Renaissance or "rebirth" began in 1350. The Renaissance was very similar to today's society because it's priorities were humanistic progress and the importance of the middle class. The Renaissance was different because it sill had a monarchy that lasted throughout and after the Renaissance. Giotto was a painter from the 1300s. He was born in 1266 or 1267. Giotto was the father of modern art. He was the first of his kind to change art as a whole that lasted through the Renaissance. Giotto though is not a very famous painter. Giotto started the Late Gothic art movement which is still prominent today. Giotto was from Florence, Italy and died in Florence, Itlay. I really like the painting Lamentation Over Jesus because the bright and brilliant colors bring a sense of happiness to the sorrow of the piece. Lamentation Over Jesus is a very three-dimensional group with well defined features. The Lamentation Over Jesus makes you feel as if you were in the scene because of the naturalistic elements and the position of the figures. In Italian the Lamentation of Christ reads Capella Degli Scrovegni. Overall, Giotto's works were all very beautiful with bright colors and mostly of a religious kind. I chose to write on Giotto because his art is full of feeling, beauty, and truths. The Renaissance is the most important time in human history because the Renaissance is what caused the facts of today. Expansion, exploration, inventions, the arts, and general progress is all do to the Renaissance.
ReplyDeleteGood essay, Lydia. I enjoyed your essay because it was well written and you wrote it about a painting that is not all that well known.
DeleteEurope went through a time called the Renaissance. This word is French for “rebirth”. During this time Europe experienced financial growth. They also grew in the areas of art, social, science, and politics. Trading also became a huge deal in Europe. This allowed for cultural exchange. The printing press allowed books to be cheap and in reach. Today we still do these things. International Trade is done between almost every country, each for a different item. We budget millions into science and politics every year. It is amazing what we can do today. The Arts are very different today than in the Renaissance. The style of art and its subjects are a lot different. Today we make art out of anything. Social has also completely changed. We can communicate to somebody across the world in a second. At any moment we can pull up the internet to find information. Information took a long time to spread in the fourteenth century. Most of it was done through horseback and letters.
ReplyDeleteI chose the Last Judgment by Michelangelo. It was painted between 1535-1541. This artwork spans the entire wall behind the altar of the Sistine Chapel. It is his image of the second coming and the Apocalypse. It is located in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City. It was restored in 1980-1994 under the supervision of Frabrizia Mancinelli. When they were restoring the painting, they found new details that were covered up as well. The huge size and the fact that one person did this amazes me.
Patricia, your essay was very well-written and it seemed like you really put effort into it! And the last judgement by michaelangelo was also one of my favorites!
DeleteGreat job on your essay, Patricia! It was written well and full of factual information. Michelangelo was a wonderful painter and it amazes me also that he could paint on such a large and elaborate scale. Again, great job on your essay!
DeleteThe word renaissance means rebirth or a new beginning. During the renaissance the Europeans expanded their society after it had been little to nothing in the decades before. The renaissance was a lot more different then what we have today. But there are some similarities like the rise of the middle class and more trade was done world wide not just from neighbor to neighbor.
ReplyDeleteThe piece of art work I chose to write about is the last supper by lenardo da vinci. The Last Supper measures 460 × 880 cm (15 feet × 29 ft) and covers an end wall of the dining hall at the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The painting was painted in 1495 and was a murel painted for the church. Leonardo worked for Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, for nearly eighteen years. The last supper is a depiction of the twelve disciples and jesus eating the last supper before jesus was crucified. The painting's appearance by the late 1970s had become badly deteriorated. From 1978 to 1999 Pinin Brambilla Barcilon guided a major restoration project which undertook to permanently stabilize the painting, and reverse the damage caused by dirt, pollution, and the misguided 18th and 19th century restoration attempts. Since it had proved impractical to move the painting to a more controlled environment, the refectory was instead converted to a sealed, climate controlled environment, which meant bricking up the windows. Restored or not though these painting is still one of the greatest peieces of art created in the renaissance.
Hey Hunter you actually did youre homework for once. Im proud of you! You still gotta get those comments on here though so im gonna text you and tell you to. Anyways, You had a really good essay this week. The Last Supper is one of my favorit pieces as well.
DeleteThe Renaissance was a time of great progress in European history. In some ways our modern culture is very much like the culture of the Renaissance and in some ways we are very different. One of the many ways we are different then during the Renaissance, there was booming financial success brought about by a growing middle class. Now days, we are going through terrible economic times and our middle class is shrinking due to increasing unemployment. One way that we are the same is that we both appreciate beauty in our architecture. For example, a lot of our modern buildings are designed with features that serve no purpose except to make the structure more visually interesting. Anot
ReplyDeleteThe work of art that I chose to write about was The Last Supper. It is a large wall mural by Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci started the painting in 1445 and completed it in 1449. The mural sits at one end at the dining hall in the Santa Maria delle Grazie monastery in Milan, Italy (this part of the monastery now serves the sole purpose of holding the famous painting.) It depicts the scene when after having his last supper with his disciples, and Jesus is telling them that one of them would betray him. The painting captures the looks on the apostles faces and the shock as they all ask, “Not I, Lord.” This painting appeals to me because its size, its history, and its realism make it an amazing work of Renaissance Art
You had some good points when you were talking about how the middle class is now. Also, I never really realized that some buildings have parts that are specifically designed to look cool or different. Architecture is something people are still into, it's just in different forms than it used to be. Good essay, Bobby!
DeleteThe Renaissance, which in French means rebirth or a new beginning, began in 1350. During the age of the Renaissanc; arts, science, and political thought became very important. In this period the Europeans went from being in a period of stagnation, where nothing was being discovered or produced, to a thriving period where many things were being made and produced.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Renaissance, art was a very thriving thing. People began to fall in love with the arts. One of my favorite pieces from this point in history is the painting of the Last Supper. The Last Supper was painted by one of the greatest artist of all time Leonardo de Vinci. The Last Supper was painted during the high Renaissance of Italy. The Last Supper was painted in 1498. It was painted on the reflectatory in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in Milan. The Last Supper still exist today in the same place that it was painted in 1498. The painting is slowly fading away and it will never be as great as it once was. The Last Supper is one of my favorite paintings from this point in history because of what the painting is depicting. The Last Supper is a painting of Jesus eating his last meal with his twelve disciples before he went onto heaven after he arose. This paintinf represents what is written by John in the book of John13:21. This is my favorite paintong because I can actually see what the actual Last Supper might have looked like, and I have actuall been to Israel and the place where the Last Supper was held and this painting just really appeases to me.
So for this week’s assignment I will obviously be talking about the renaissance. Andhow we differ and how we are somewhat alike. Ways that we are different are that the nobles back then would be like our farmers today. The farmers today aren’t all poor, but they would wake up as early as before sunrise to go and tend to their animals such as milking cows, and gathering eggs, and cleaning up after their livestock, and then feeding them. Later they would head to go to sleep after they had made sure that the animals were all taken care of and were all ready for the night. Also another way that we would be the same would be that the Plague sent them into an economic depression, just how we are kind of in that same spot today.. like a recession type thing. Now also some way that we are different is that sailors were only able to go so far. They had limits to what they were allowed to do and where they were allowed to go. Another difference would be that we don’t have a do-it-yourself printing press. We have machines that will do it for you in seconds or less. This makes printing papers and flyers and cars and anything else much easier to print and to have and anything else. Since it was so much more difficult to do back then. I should probably pick a piece of artwork now. I picked some of Giotto’s works of art. I researched a couple of his pieces and saw that most of them had Christian attributes.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your essay, Amanda! The Renaissance was a very amazing and world-altering time in our history. And though we are very different from that era their are many similarities. Again, great job on your essay!
DeleteAmanda Wiggington: Great Job on your essay you wrote! It was very well put and very down to earth! It seemed that you did you research and you did very well on it! I liked what you said about the farmers. All of them aren’t poor. Without farmer’s we would suffer as of not having any vegetables and meat. Also, it was good about what you said about the printer’s and stuff. I am very glad for printers. I would hate to write everything a lot of times.
ReplyDeletePatricia Smith: Awesome job on your essay!! I am again glad we have printing today. I thought your essay was very well- written and intellectual. You did some research on it. It was great! I thought the Painting from Michelangelo was also very good. Which I guess since he was pretty famous it would have to be good. Right? Great job on it!!
Bethany Cox - I really enjoyed your essay this week! It was very well-written and informative. I liked how you mentioned how the Renaissance is different from today because of the Renaissance’s emphasis on the arts. I also thought it was very interesting to know that Giotto’s artwork consisted of Christian themes. Overall, great work this week.
ReplyDeleteLydia Ramsey- I also really enjoyed your essay for this week’s assignment as well! It was very informative and organized so that I could easily understand the message you were trying to convey. I loved the painting, Lamentation Over Jesus and almost chose it myself. The Giotto work is very powerful and beautiful with its vibrant colors and its Christian theme. Overall, great job this week!
Allisha Turpin- I also enjoyed your essay this week. I liked how you talked about the society structure of the Renaissance and today. Overall, great job this week!
Thank you,
Rebecca Dunmore
The Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned the period roughly from the 14th to the 17th century, beginning in Italy in the Late Middle Ages and later spreading to the rest of Europe. From French: Renaissance, Original Italian: Rinascimento, from rinascere "to be reborn". The Renaissance had their origin in late 13th century Florence, in particular with the writings of Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) and Francesco Petrarca (1304–1374), as well as the painting of Giotto di Bondone (1267–1337).
ReplyDeleteOne of the distinguishing features of Renaissance art was its development of highly realistic linear perspective, treating a painting as a window into space; painters also developed other techniques, studying light and shadow.
The rediscovery of ancient texts and the invention of printing democratized learning and allowed a faster propagation of ideas. In the first period of Italian Renaissance, humanists favored the study of humanities over natural philosophy or applied mathematics.
I chose The Trinity by Masaccio and it was created sometime between 1425-1427, it is located in the Dominican church of Santa Maria Novella, in Florence. I choose The Trinity by Masaccio, because Masaccio is my favorite Renaissance artist and because intended for personal devotions and commemorations of the dead, although explanations of how the painting reflects these functions differ in their details. Another reason that I chose The Trinity by Masaccio is that The fresco, with its terrible logic, is like a proof in philosophy or mathematics, God the Father, with His unrelenting eyes, being the axiom from which everything else irrevocably flows.
the renesaunce in my opinion is not so diffrent from what we as americans are facing today as we go through our days with technology advancements and many diffrent advancments in our time while the renisaunce have had multiple advancements within there days we can almost see a relaps in history as they say history repeats itself. as we continue to make a technichlogical breakthrough day after day we may end up in several wars such as after the origanal renesaunce was
ReplyDeleteas the we can see through the glorius art work of the rennisaunce in my personal opinioun leonardo da vinci was a great pioniring artist in that day and time his artwork ( the monalisa, the last supper, etc.) have all been pionering to the art world as we know it today. my favorite painting over all by leonardo woul more than lickley haft to be the lords supper i have watched many documenteries about leonardo da vinci, and they say the last super was suposdly more colorful and bright with oil based pastels, but sadly over time it had warn down to what it is today
